Ordeal
A subway platform in Queens. The fluorescents flicker. Che, a young man with his grandfather's boxing wraps still tucked in his duffel bag, boards the wrong train. When the doors slide open, the station sign reads Asclepius — a name that does not exist on any MTA map.
The world above is still there. The same sun, the same oceans, the same continents. But the people walking the streets now walk them with "Kimyos" — individuals touched by an awakening that can twist flesh into steel, blood into flame, or minds into something unrecognizable. Che has no Kimyo. He has only his fists and a frantic voicemail from his mentor saying never, ever come looking for him. The underground fighting rings are recruiting. Old orders of Kimyo warriors are fracturing. And somewhere at the center of it all, a secret buried in Che's family bloodline is about to be disinterred — by a woman who has been waiting for him to arrive since before he was born. Welcome to Ordeal. The train only runs one way.
